Hi! This is Laura Roeder. I’m here in Austin, Texas where I’ve been to the South by South West, Interactive Conference, where I had a panel on Monday and of course when people hear what they do, they often ask me questions. And the questions I have been getting a lot is; “Should I post on Twitter every time I have a new blog post?”
This question is actually, a bigger question which is; “Should I update people on Twitter about all this stuff I’m doing?” “Is it annoying or should I think, well if they want to go to my blog they can read my blog?” Here is the deal.
People follow you on twitter, friend you in Facebook, look at your website, all that kind of stuff, because they want to know about you. That’s why they are following. They want to know about you, they want to know about the kind of stuff you’re doing, they want to know what you’re up to; they want to know what you’re writing about in your blog. So the short answer is “yes”.
You should absolutely, be posting a Tweet every time you put a new blog entry, even if they are already subscribed by RSS. It’s a way you are actually making things easier for your readers. You’re not annoying them. Even if I have your blog, and your RSS subscription; I love your blog I want to know as soon as you have new entry so I can read it. Maybe I will click on it on Twitter. Maybe I will see it in RSS later, maybe I have so many RSS feeds that I’m going to missed it but I will see it a lot sooner when you Tweet about it.
Remember that when people follow you, that’s why they are following you. They want to know what you’re doing; they want to know about you and especially if you have a popular blog. Probably a lot of people came to your Twitter from your blog. So of course they are interested. Of course they are interested in your blog. Of course they want to know what you’re doing. So don’t be shy about telling people what’s going on. It’s not being pushy. It’s not forcing people to go to your blog. They are following you because they want to learn about you. So make that easy for them let people know what you are up to.

Hey Laura. As usual, good info! I worry I’ll tick people off with anything like this. This jumpin’ into Twitter thing is something like being the new girl in school. Good to have a buddy to guide me. Yay! I’m off to tweet my blog!
