Hey Laura Roeder here. Hey I have to tell that I live on the most beautiful walk street on Southern California that you have ever seen and whenever people would come over to my house and they would see the walk street they ask why I don’t film videos there well because it’s like this beautiful background with all these flowers. I am going to start filming videos there, I promise I will but I am still filming this one in like my boring home office but I want to tell you the reason I do that. The reason I do that is because this is fast and easy and I can get it done instantly. I can turn on; I don’t even turn on the camera. I turn on to my computer and record it and it’s done. So the reason that I am pointing this out is because getting things done fast is maybe the most important skill you can have in making your business succeed and moving your business along and it’s something that I think a lot of people are missing because they haven’t set up a formal structure to make them take action quickly. So one of my favorite structure is for making this happen is what is called an accountability group. So an accountability group is somewhat like a mastermind group if you’ve heard of mastermind groups but the difference is that in an accountability group is all about just holding yourself

This is a great idea. Being a self-employed individual working from a home office there are no lack of distractions day-to-day and occasionally I find myself losing focus. This would be an awesome way to keep myself on track.

I’m a HUGE fan of accountability groups. Without them, I would never get anything done and my business would definitely be stagnant. Love the idea of creating an accountability group just for building my social media brand.
Thanks for the great tip, Laura! Can’t wait to see that beautiful walk way outside your house!

Yes! I agree. I used to have a life coach that I would have to check in with for my accountability. That really helped out and got the ball rolling for me every week. It was amazing how much I got done when I did this.
I am forming a new group today for my accountability, so that I can rock the house baby.
Thanks for your awesome insight as always.
By the way, I be there are super handsome men outside on your walk outside too. Bonus.

Hi Laura,
Good video. Something weird is going on, though. I subscribe via RSS. In your RSS reader, it says click here to view the video — except it’s not a clickable link! When I click the post title instead, I get taken to this page (lauraroeder.com/2009/07/how-to-form-an-online-accountability-group/), where I can leave a comment, but I can’t see the video. I had to click on “Blog” at the top from here to find the video.
I’d love it if you could fix this. Glad I finally found the video. Also of note: I am in an online accountability group and agree with all your points.

Totally. When I was in an accountability group I was getting LOTS done. I took a break from them to focus on some non-business things and now that I’m back into the swing with growing different aspects of my business it’s time to get back into action and getting things done.
It’s exciting and also somewhat intimidating because it’s unfamiliar in some ways. But that’s exactly why I gotta get back into it.
Just like you were saying to do an About page or Contact page and have those live by Friday…that’s the type of specificity I’m going to bringing into my actions. Gotta have those tangible results – just like when I was a teacher and expected my kids to turn in papers at a certain time. I gotta take myself back to school, ya know?
Time to form a new accountability group. One that will lovingly hold me to the fire and also not scare me to the point of being paralyzed and overwhelmed. I know I’ll find what I’m looking for with the perfect group. Thanks, girl!

I’ve experienced some of the biggest leaps in my business when I’ve been in accountability groups. It’s like: “Oh yeah! I need to be around supportive, high-frequency people who are all building their business and want to help one another…duh!”

Love it. I think not just your idea but the articulation of it. It works great for working out and I am sure it can work out well for productivity too…no matter how diverse our work load. Thanks!!!

I would love to be in your accountability group! Is it just a couple of your friends or did you pay to be in one?

I will absolutly form a accountability group. Thanks for the tip!
Took your zero to blog course and I loved it! I did a videoblogg, but with 5 minutues it is to big for youtube (and for wordpress). I would be very happy, happy, super happy if you gave me an advice on how to upload it or get it smaller?
Cant wait to see your street and next tip!

Hey Gry! Not sure exactly what problem you had, but YouTube accepts videos of up to 10 minutes.
