Befriend Bloggers

Posted on November 25, 2010

Connecting with blogs that serve your audience is one of the best ways to Create Fame (and make money) fast! Blogs allow you go straight to where your market has already gathered online.

Try to befriend three bloggers in your space or industry. You should look for blogs that serve your buyers – whether it’s small businesses, stay-at-home dads, or skateboard enthusiasts. Whoever you sell to, I promise someone is blogging for them! (Finding these blogs is easy–google is your best friend!)

If you aren’t already following blogs in your market start with a small gesture – leave a comment or tweet to the owner of the blog introducing yourself.

If you’re already on the blogger’s radar, take the next step of sending them a personal email. Don’t try to be “strategic”, just be friendly.

Tell them who you are, and why you like their blog. If you aren’t sure what to write, start with “I’ve been reading your blog for a while and just wanted to introduce myself, I’m _____ “.  Don’t over think this one!

  1. This is a great point Laura. Befriending bloggers is exactly how I’ve built my business over the last two years and it has helped tremendously. I’ve not only made some great connection for my business, but a few friends along the way as well.
Running a blog myself, in addition to my business, I get a lot of submissions and introductions. Personally, I respond most to those that are short and sweet (and of course thoughtful) that have a link to their website as well. Once a dialogue has started its easier to get people to write about you and your business (much easier than just a cold email asking for promotion). If someone emails me and I start to kind of “get to know” that person, overtime I start rooting for them and I want to help them out by promoting their work, etc. It just kind of happens organically. And that’s really one of the best way to do, in terms of results.

Great post Laura! Reaching out to bloggers has been one of most important techniques I’ve picked up as a brand strategist. I’m constantly perusing through various different blogs and sites in my free time to connect with individuals, who I feel are passionate about what they do. You’re one of them! Thanks again for sharing.

    Best,
    -Yosef

Nice points but it is very difficult to contact bloggers. or befriend them.
I am running a blog but facing problems

  4. Amazing advice. Reaching out and communicating with other bloggers is surely one of the best sources of traffic for a blog, added that both are in the same market, the method gets more effective. Also it doesn’t hurt that we are making friends along the way. :)
